JR is a single mum to three children one of whom is B, aged 8, who has the degenerative terminal illness, Sanfillipo Syndrome, which needs medical assistance to be available 24 hours per day.
Hoping for a memorable family holiday, while B was 'well' enough to go, JR booked a short cruise - an economical and practical choice because the two younger children would go for free and full medical facilities were available on board ship.
JR's mum paid £155 deposit, leaving a balance of £1,469 which was only achievable when accounting for the child maintenance paid by JR's ex-husband.
But, after the booking was made, JR's ex changed his job, the maintenance was halved, and it seemed they would lose the one chance to have this important holiday before B deteriorated too far.
JR met one of our fundraisers at her local store, read our leaflet and hesitatingly asked if we could be of any help.
Our trustees unanimously agreed to support and, within two weeks of receiving the application, we paid the full £1,469 balance.
